Koopa the Quick is a big Koopa Troopa that Mario can race twice for Power Stars in Super Mario 64 and the remake. He is one of the competitor characters in the game along with the Big Penguin. According to what he says, his home is the 'huge' variation of Tiny-Huge Island, which explains his size. History[edit]Super Mario 64[edit]- “You must be strong. And pretty fast. But how fast are you, anyway? Fast enough to beat me... Koopa the Quick? I don't think so. Just try me.”

In Super Mario 64, Mario first meets Koopa the Quick in Bob-omb Battlefield after defeating the King Bob-omb. He only appears in the mission Footrace with Koopa the Quick. He is seen at the entrance of the stage and will challenge Mario to a race from there to the top of the mountain where the Big Bob-omb originally resided. Once Mario accepts his challenge, the race will start. If Mario makes it to the top of the mountain first and the victory jingle plays, he will have to wait until Koopa the Quick makes it to the top as well to receive a Power Star. However, if Mario loses to Koopa the Quick, he will have to return to the castle, re-enter the stage, and try again. Also, Mario cannot use a cannon to get to the top of the mountain faster, as Koopa the Quick will consider it as cheating and will not give him the Power Star. However, using either of the warps will not affect the race. Somewhat hypocritically, Koopa the Quick himself cheats, as he takes a shortcut up a slope too steep for Mario to climb normally. Koopa the Quick is next seen on the 'huge' side of Tiny-Huge Island near Windswept Valley in the mission Rematch with Koopa the Quick, where he will challenge Mario to a rematch for another Power Star. This time, Koopa the Quick is much faster and more difficult to beat. Again, the race will start if Mario accepts the rematch. Mario must also be careful not to get blown off the Windswept Valley Bridge on his way to the flag. Once he beats Koopa the Quick, he will receive another Power Star. If Mario enters the 'tiny' side of the island, then the player can find an especially-small Koopa Troopa that would be in the same location as Koopa the Quick. In this island, if Mario loses to Koopa the Quick, he can simply use the pipes to go to the tiny island, and then use the pipe again to go back to the large island, where Koopa the Quick will be back at the start of race. Super Mario 64 DS[edit]Koopa the Quick and Yoshi in Super Mario 64 DS. Koopa the Quick also appears in the remake, Super Mario 64 DS, where (due to the enhanced graphics of the game) he is redesigned to look like the other 'modern' Koopa Troopas. Nothing about his races has changed, but he will only race Mario. However, he cannot tell the difference between Mario and characters wearing Mario's Cap. Also, if Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario lose their Mario disguise and finish the race, he will claim that he is the winner since Mario has technically not shown up, but if they beat him, then grab Mario's Cap, he will award them the Power Star. While the player still cannot use a cannon in their favor, they can use the Wing Cap if they are wearing it while starting the race; flying with it will still count as a loss. Trivia[edit]- During the development of Super Mario 64, the player originally raced against a rabbit, but it was replaced by a Koopa Troopa due to the rabbit being too fast.[2]
- The secret to his speed in Tiny-Huge Island is his 'Koopa Mach 1 Sprint' shoes, or in Super Mario 64 DS, 'Supa Koopa Sprint' sneakers, on which he spent all of his cash. Neither are mentioned in the original Japanese script or the French translations, though the German, Italian, and Spanish translations retain the reference.
- In the French translation, he asks Mario at one point if he has been training for the Olympic Games; the reference is removed in Super Mario 64 DS.
- While Koopa the Quick does not appear in Super Mario Odyssey, there are Koopa Troopas named the Roving Racers that challenge the player to a race in most kingdoms.
- In Super Mario 64 DS, he seems to recognize Mario, as opposed to having to introduce himself like in the original game. He also holds his races in this version to help Mario lose weight.

Nintendo serves up the deliciously strategic Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido
You are the only one who can save the world’s sushi – by eating as much as you can! In the fast-paced action-puzzle-RPG Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido – now available for both the Nintendo Switch system and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems – you must vanquish the evil Empire by devouring delicious sushi and hurling the empty plates at your opponents.
“This wonderfully clever game is sure to work up an appetite for fans of frenetic action-puzzle games,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With a simultaneous launch on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS, fans can enjoy a veritable buffet of sushi anytime, anywhere.”
In the game, you play as the orphaned hero and budding Sushi Striker, Musashi. As you journey through the massive collection of more than 150 stages, you will get to better know your hero and a colorful cast of other characters through fully animated voiced cutscenes.
Each battle consists of two opponents, who both have access to three conveyor belts of constantly changing sushi – along with a seventh shared belt in the middle. By linking (and eating) sushi plates of the same color, you create stacks that can then be hurled at your opponent. The fun, sushi-eating action is coupled with significant tactical depth. You’ll encounter divine beings called Sushi Sprites that provide special skills that you can chain together for powerful combos. One Sprite might turn all of your plates the same color for a certain time, for example, while another will turn sushi into sweets that restore HP. You can equip up to three different Sushi Sprites in battle, and there are more than 50 Sushi Sprites to befriend, many of which can evolve into more powerful forms.

In the Nintendo 3DS version*, the action is split between the two screens, with the ability to use the stylus to control the action. Touch controls can also be used while playing in Handheld mode on Nintendo Switch. Both versions also allow for local or online multiplayer.** Two players who each own the game and a Nintendo 3DS family system can battle each other locally, while two people can each use a single Joy-Con controller to compete on the same screen when playing on Nintendo Switch. They can also battle each other locally if they each have their own game and Nintendo Switch system.
Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido is now available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS at suggested retail prices of $49.99 and $39.99, respectively.
